Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) is a poor welfare scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dec 2016. The primary objective of this scheme is to help the financially weaker section of the society.

Under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, the central govt has announced on March 26, 2020, those poor people of the country should not face any issue during the lockdown period. Because of COVID 19 pandemic, the whole country is in a paused state.

Hence during addressing the media, Finance Minister Shri Nirmala Sitharaman announced multiple schemes of budget 1.70crores under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.

According to govt, the scheme will help 80 crore citizen under multiple categories.

Introduction:

Under this scheme, the government gave the people the opportunity to pay interest on their undeclared income in addition to fines. Under it, there will be 50 percent tax and fines on disclosure. The remaining 25 percent will be deposited in the bank for 4 years, on which no interest will be paid.

It is understood that 30 percent tax, 33 percent surcharge, and 10 percent fine will be levied on the money deposited under the Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Scheme. It will be about 50 percent of the money deposited.

In addition, 25% of the declared amount will have to be deposited under the Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Scheme and there will be no interest in this amount and this amount will remain blocked for 4 years.

Under the Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Scheme, the central government will provide 5 kg of wheat or rice and 1 kg of pulses to 600 million poor people every month for the next three months. The main goal of announcing the Poor Welfare Package is to help the poorest people by providing them with food and money so that they do not face difficulties in purchasing the necessary supplies or products and meeting their basic needs.

Benefits of Prime Minister’s ration subsidy scheme

  • Ration subsidy will be provided to 80 crore beneficiaries of the country under this scheme.
