GPS: Global Positioning System
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is actually a satellite-based navigation system that helps to identify the location of vehicles. It also helps to track any vehicle like its current location, speed and various parameters under all weather conditions across the world. The system was build by the US defense department to help the US navy to track ships.
Initially, it was used to communicate and share the locations between the ships every hour. Later they made it free for all. Now anyone who has GPS receiver installed can track and determine the location.
GPS is something which revolutionizes our daily life. Sitting at home, a mom can see her son’s location, whether the bus is coming or not, where the bus is ? and many more.
Going on a long trip journey, one can easily find out the best route, the shortest time and the best hotels in the city. Or else going to a new city, you are no more a stranger. Just open your Google maps and on your location. You will never feel new in the city.
What is the difference between GPS and GPRS?
The full form of GPS is the Global Positioning System whereas the full form of GPRS is General Packet Radio Service. The GPS is actually a satellite-based navigation system whereas GPRS is specifically used in the video call, mail access, etc.
Applications of GPS:
- It helps to determine the exact locations of objects, persons and vehicles.
- GPS helps to find the less traffic route basis on data from the satellite
- It is extensively used in air forces and in the army to track locations and distance.
